Thomas H. Matterness
The church was without a pastor for almost a year after Pastor Snyder's resignation, until the Rev.Thomas H. Matterness of Landisburg was elected in September, 1917. He began his work in the charge in October of the same year. An eloquent evangelistic speaker, he was a faithful pastor and under his leadership the seed sown by Pastor Snyder sprouted and grew. Membership increased and missionary offerings were larger, and, according to the church records of that period, more members were contributing. Since Pastor Snyder had used a car only a few weeks, Pastor Matterness was the first to use an automobile for all of his work. He resigned May 30, 1920, and died in Lebanon in 1945, at the age of 77.
