Geraldine E. Shawda

On February 24, 1959, the Rev. Mrs. Geraldine E. (Wagner) Shawda was called to the new Beaver Springs Charge and assumed the duties as our first female pastor on July 1, 1959.  During her pastorate, in April, 1960, the front of the church was paneled and wall to wall carpeting and new pews were installed at a total cost of $16,000.00.  Confirmation gowns were also purchased on April 7, 1960.  On October 7, 1960, Dossal Curtains to be hung behind the alter were purchased, as was carpet for the vestibule and an addressograph machine.  In April of 1961 the kitchen was put in the basement, new shrubbery was planted outside, and new pulpit and organ lights were put inside.  The project was finished on July 12th.  A bulletin board was acquired on April 5, 1962.  This was a gift from the Carrie Hetrick estate.  Real wax candles instead of electric ones were used starting on July 8, 1964.  She concluded her duties at the end of 1965, and resigned effective January 31, 1966.
